The
Rogers Family News Update
April 17, 2006
A STUDY IN CONTRASTS:
“Believing in God is for weak-minded fools!” “I am just as comfortable
praying at the Buddhist temple as I am in church.” “I’ve spent 50 years
getting comfortable with who I am, and I am not interested in listening to
anything that would disrupt that now!” “I could completely care less where I
go when I die.” “Once in Mexico, I hugged an ancient cactus and became one
with the universe.”
The above are just a small sampling of the responses we have received from
typical Canadians that we have spoken to in recent weeks (and I swear I am
not making that last one up). We continue to be amazed by the generally
antagonistic or apathetic responses to our witness, as we sow the Gospel in
a ‘post-Christian society’. How we are burdened for the souls of men!
On the other hand, these are some of the responses that we have received
from immigrant peoples: “Do I believe in God? No, but I think I should.” “I
have been wanting to go to church. Can I bring a friend?” “You know, you
have just answered some of the deepest questions that I have always had!”
Quite a contrast, eh? We are encouraged to see that God is still working,
and we feel that God is further enlightening us as to the direction that our
ministry should take.
FOR PRAISE & PRAYER:
* Dorothy and I have been everywhere, it seems (actually just all over Texas
and southern California), attending missions conferences and reporting to
churches. Today, we are off for a conference in Oregon. God has given
traveling grace, and all needs have been met by the generosity of the
churches. We PRAISE God for the partnership we have with all of you.
* Our new Sunday night evangelistic outreach continues to do well. We
recently had over 45 unsaved parents and kids attend one such outreach.
Almost all were Chinese immigrants. On Good Friday, one of our Filipino
families asked us to speak to a gathering of friends, about 18 Catholics in
all. We PRAISE God for the doors that He is opening. PRAY the sown seed will
bear fruit!
A couple of weeks ago, we baptized 3 young men. What wonderful testimonies
each gave of the grace of God in their lives!
Sarah has bounced back nicely from her recent bout of affliction. She is
back in school again! Also, a case worker brought her before a judge who
ruled in her favor, and it would appear that her insurance provider will be
required to cover her medical supplies, for a while at least. An unexpected
turn of events!
Pray for our witness, and our wisdom, that the work here would continue to
bear fruit, and even much more than it has been! We thank God for you all.
