Prayer Letter

August - October 2010

Dear Friends:

Perilous Times Shall Come - We all can see how Scripture is being fulfilled before our eyes. We are living in dangerous times here in Mexico. You see it in the news, yet we go on with our lives and the work knowing who keeps us in His hand. Both Martha and I have received threatening phone calls - people trying to extort money, etc ... but we are safe and continue on.

Legal Difficulties - As you may recall from past letters, we've had severe problems with a church neighbor. His house is very near the church and he resents our presence.  As you may know, here in Mexico anyone can file a claim against you and then you have to prove your innocence.  Our neighbor has filed a claim against me saying I assaulted him and threatened to kill him. Now I must prove the accusation is not true. I'm sure it will all work out - just another cause of headaches and multiple trips to court.

Church Legalization - In spite of the fact our president here in Mexico signed a new law to eliminate excessive paperwork for many transactions, it did not include registration of non-Catholic churches. So, we are in the middle of that process .. The lawyers hope it will be done in 3-6 months. I hope it doesn't take 3 years!

Evangelism - A while back we met a young couple that is trying to revive a small church in the little town of Ojuelos, Jalisco. There are approximately 10,000 people in the area. You may recall we took a group of teens there and handed our 7,000 tracts. I was invited back in September to preach a meeting. They are now running about 50 and are saving money towards a new building! Many decisions were made in the meeting.  In other services, we've seen a total of 14 protesslons of faith.

Dear brethren, we pray for you, our supporters. We know and understand many are in difficult financial times. God bless you all for your sacrifices.

'Til Jesus Comes,

Lonnie C. Smith, Jr.
